Marchoi Trek is, without a doubt one of the most appealing trek in Kashmir. If you are a first-timer, you enjoy the snow (& cold) and have a thing for flowing rivers, Marchoi trek is your pick.

It’s an offbeat winter trek in Kashmir that takes you through the beauty of some of the less visited dwellings of Kashmir. What makes this trek an experience is the sights of the beautiful valley, the campsite and the people around.

Basecamp & Campsites of Marchoi Trek

The ancient village of Naranag-a place which was once home to Shaivism and has spiritual reverence is where you start this offbeat journey. You start from the old temple ruins and village dwellings into the beautiful valley. It’s an 18km
sweet trek to the Marchoi top and back, a nice winter trekking experience in Kashmir for beginners and seasoned trekkers alike.

Wagnath river, a tributary of the Sindh is ever-flowing along the trail and a few miles down, on the first day from Naranag to Shangri Campsite via Dhumail, is where you shall see the beautiful Marchoi Valley. And that is exactly where the campsite is. Isn’t it amazing? Trekkers Of India team welcomes trekkers with Hot Kashmiri Kahwa & some lip smacking snacks & Hey! We have bonfire evening too!

Once the campsite shenanigans are over, on Day 2 you start your trek to the Marchoi top. This is where it all starts getting better-the views, the trail and the valley.

The summit is a real beauty and definitely worth the climb. It offers you a full view of the alluring valley-something we describe as “faultless”. You can see Mt. Harmukh, Kotwal Peak plus the Gangabal, Salnai and Wangath Valley all
from the top. We don’t usually say this lightly, but it’s mesmerizing! We enjoy our packed lunch at Marchoi Top. Oh, the great food & Kashmiri Khawa just add to the list of good things.
