1. Lump Size

Material with huge discrepancies in particle size, or very large lumps tends not to properly convey in a vertical screw. Generally, free-flowing material that does not degrade will work correctly in a vertical screw. Friable material along with very fine powders that aerate will often have issues working correctly in a vertical screw.

2. Extremely Dense Material

Extremely dense material that has little to no compressive capability may not convey properly because of the fully-loaded condition & speed at which a vertical screw operates.

3. Abrasive Materials

Because of the high speeds and full contact of the material to the screw, abrasive materials may quickly degrade components, with prematurely wearing seals and drive components.
